Why the Bible?

After creating the heavens and earth, the seas and land, the moon and sun, the animals and creatures, God created man and woman (Adam and Eve) and He said, "IT IS VERY GOOD".

Adam and Eve would still be in paradise (the garden of Eden) if they had not disobeyed God.  Man has always had free will, a choice to follow God or go it alone.  We still have those choices and if we choose to follow God, He has provided us a guidebook, the Bible.

WHAT IS THE BIBLE

The Bible is how God reveals Himself to us.  The more you read the Bible the more you will learn about God.  He loves you and wants you to know Him.  He wants to have a personal relationship with you.  To give you some idea of who God is, you should know:

  • God has all knowledge (omniscience)
  • God has presence at all times everywhere (omnipresence)
  • God has unlimited power (omnipotence)

The only thing that separates us from God is our sin.  Man has been separated from God ever since Adam and Eve first disobeyed God and sinned.  God has provided us with a solution, a way to pay for our sins, and He explains it in the Bible.

FAITH

There are six kinds or expressions of faith.  We will look at Doctrinal Faith also called "The Faith" and "Saving Faith".

The Faith: Refers to the content of Christian belief. Believing and trusting in something or someone we cannot see, touch or hear.  When we read God's word, by faith we know and believe in our hearts and mind that God and His word are true and real.

Saving Faith:  When we read the Bible and by faith believe and trust in what God has done for us through His Son Jesus Christ, that we are declared righteous and justified to receive the gift of salvation and eternal life with God.

Faith pleases God and is seen many times in the Bible.
